From Encyclopedia Of Stupid
| | Hello! Welcome to Food Network®'s Encyclopedia Of Stupid! While we're not completely sure if you suck or not, it appears you are making edits. We know this because every single edit, no matter how minor, is reflected on the Recent changes page, which is heavily patrolled by a gang of trained monkeys.
People who create accounts here generally leave and never come back, so your behavior is baffling to us. Still, we are glad you're on board. For your convenience, here is a link with hints that will endear you to us instead of making us want to kill you and your entire family. Not clicking this link makes the baby Jesus cry. |
Hey, I've added to and editorialized your Moses article a wee bit; hope you're ok with that. Maybe it's just me, but 'Smelly Old Jew' made me laugh for a good 5 minutes straight. Simple pleasures for simple minds, ROFL. DoubleR 11:58, 1 Oct 2006 (PDT)
- That's the beauty of EOS!
You're welcome for the format thing but you don't have to thank me for it, it's part of the job! To be honest it took me ages to work out exactly what was missing from the article, I was sitting there thinking 'There's something missing here, but what on earth is it?' Correcting such things really isn't a problem compared to having to edit whole articles of poorly written junk that in many cases has no redeeming features whatsoever, as unfortunately is often the case for the mods to deal with.
I am vaguely familiar with Switched-On Bach; I think my old music teacher played a sample from it in class one time. I didn't know that Wendy Carlos used some of Kurzweil's synthesizers, but it's an interesting point. The article doesn't actually mention synthesizers at all, but perhaps it should as there's definitely something that could be written about it (perhaps Kurzweil and Hawking forming a techno rap group as an example off the top of my head). Damn, there's potential there. I'm going to write that up now! Thanks for the info!
P.S. In future feel free to reply to questions/comments on your own talk page, it makes everything a bit easier to follow if it's all on the same page. Similarly if you're initiating conversation with someone stick it on their User: talk page, so they get a message about it when they next log in. As a format Nazi I feel obliged to point these things out!

Ah, thanks...
First, thanks for the tidbit about replying; I'm still not entirely accustomed to this format, but I'm making an effort to have things done correctly. To date, I haven't had any complaints, nor have I heard anything disparaging, so I'm content. Also, you're the first person from the EOS to contact me; is it appropriate to respond, then chime in on your page... How do conversations work on EOS? Is there a private forum or anywhere for regulars to congregate?
There was something else I wanted to address, except I forgot. Wizard, October 3, 2006.
- That's ok, though I should be a bit clearer about talk pages. Regarding conversations, we're shooting for something like this:
A bold header summarizing what you're saying
- Say something to user. <sig>
- User responds thusly <sig>
Of course it's appropriate to start afresh for new conversations/discussions even with the same person, but on one topic this is what we're going for. You only need to respond on one talk page, so if someone comments on your page then reply there, if you comment on someone else's page then replies and further discussion should happen there. The community portal covers this topic as well if I'm not making much sense.
Unfortunately there isn't anywhere for users to congregate en masse. If there was it would most likely be on IRC, but there'd probably be only be a handful of people on there at any one time so there's not a lot of point right now. It would be good to have such a thing, but alas not yet. And yeah you're doing fine so far, you've written actual articles and made edits that don't suck, and that's what we need. Unfortunately we seem to lose too many writers who have potential as they don't stick around, which is a crying shame. You've been here a few months and what you've done has been good, so thanks for sticking around and doing what you're doing.
As a final point, you can sign talk page comments with four tildes (~), like this: DoubleR 14:06, 6 Oct 2006 (PDT)
