This contest idea is a good one - very good. I suggest limiting the contest to the TOP entry in the "most wanted list," however - so that we can hold a series of contests and award a platinum star for each one. That way we can protect the original subject page from being edited and if anyone comes along and writes decent entries for other most wanted stuff, it's all good. I think it's going to get worse before it gets better. Maybe there is some way to alter the "create new account" page to put a checkbox on it that says "I SWEAR I'VE READ THE STYLE PAGE." And some JavaScript to force them to check it. And no worries about the bunny, it's a bit of an in-joke with the founders.

RE: bots - That's some good info, but most of these bots are following empty links, which have to be deleted altogether. A very small minority of the vandalism here even has "rollback" as an option. It comes back and says "you can't roll this back because this user is the originator of this article." If only the software would let you rollback to nonexistence.
