It is also a BBS-style threaded message board system that is notable mainly for the wide variety of trolls that can be found on it.

Most reasonable people use USENET for trading warez, porn, and pirated mp3s. It is only a particular type of idiot that actually tries to talk to people in a newsgroup, so unless you want to discuss the news of the day with that particular type of idiot you should probably forgo the experience, as USENET does not engage in any discussion that bears any resemblance to anything approaching rational. It is possible to win debates on USENET, but this is akin to winning an event in the Special Olympics; you may have won, but you're still a fucking retard.

In point of fact, posting rational arguments to USENET is vaguely akin to smacking a bear in the face with a steak. The results, inevitable and tragic, are your own goddamn fault, because as a rational, thinking person, you do not belong anywhere in the vicinity of USENET. While USENET's conversational newsgroups used to be the sole purview of nerds and scholars, they have now been basically hijacked by mentally unstable racist pedophiles.
