The word "Goth" actually refers to the word "Gothic" which was a style of Architecture around 1500 a.d. The french did not like the style because it was not symmetrical, and boldy displayed it's flying buttresses for the world to see. So those silly French insultingly called it "Gothic" which means "all pointy and ugly". So, when you call a kid a "goth" you are really calling them a pointy ugly guy.
