The History of Free Will
Free Will was apparently designed by George Washington sometime before 1975. Washington, needing a way to run America for cheaper, decided to give every man, woman, child and anorak the idea that they could do what they wanted.
Historical failings of Free Will

Nazi Germany
The German people sometime before 1975 used their Free Will to elect the Nazi party to power, the Nazi party lead by a young upstart named Hitler promptly used their Free Will to try to conquer Europe and exterminated many a Jew during the holocaust.
Jews in Nazi Germany
Many Jews in Nazi Germany used their Free Will to decide that they wouldn't leave the country and they would stay and stand their ground, because they weren't leaving their homes god damnit! They were all killed.
George W. Bush
George W. Bush is the greatest example of the failings of Free Will. The American electorate voted (obviously using their free will) George Bush into power, George Bush then fought several wars using his free will and caused all sorts of havoc.
Solutions to Free Will
It goes without saying that if none of us had free will then none of these problems would have arisen. What several important people have suggested is that we create a world where computers (see: The Matrix) governs our lives completely, life would be fully logical if not a little dull.
